TEACHER MONIQUE

This beauty was once a hotelier before becoming an ESL teacher.  After landing and ESL position, she was assigned to do more Omotenashi and Business Socializing classes.  Teacher Monique did not imagine that she could go far in this industry.  All this time, she was just trying to one up herself.  To her surprise, she was named the season’s second best teacher.  Not too bad for being a teacher for the first time.

Being the social butterfly of the faculty, she often brings the students to places where they can exercise their socializing skills using English.  For her, it is like having a class outside the classroom.  Teacher Monique wants to let the students have a realistic experience.  She does not want to confine them in the classroom just teaching phraseologies.  Bringing them to small gatherings, restaurants, etc. allows the students to think on their feet.

Oh!  By the way, she is in charge of the school’s FB page.  So, if ever you send a message, she will definitely answer in a heartbeat.  Greet or ask anything that is English-related, Teacher will Monique will answer.


TEACHER MEL

Another nurse in the team, Teacher Mel assists in all medical-related subjects.  She also helps in building the curriculum to make it easier for the beginner students.  And yes, she creates and participates in role-plays.

Her natural speed in speaking is quite fast that is why she is good for intermediate to advanced students.  She will make you feel that you are talking to someone in a natural environment.  To help you improve your fluency, she facilitates activities in class that will improve your fluency.

With her natural wit and good-natured humor, students do enjoy her classes.

TEACHER NICHOLE

Teacher Nichole is the main face of Ceblish Entertainment’s The Lounge.  When assigned to spearhead the project, she hesitated for a while but eventually took the role.  Would you believe it if I say that Teacher Nichole is actually an introvert?  She confessed to be one.  Lo and behold, she is now out of her shell and is displaying her artistic prowess.  She makes use of different tools and so her vision translates to her output.

She is mainly handling Socializing, Omotenashi, Topics classes, and Vocabulary and Expressions subjects for now.  Then again, she is on to something more.  What makes her impressive is her knack for expanding her knowledge.  Teacher Nichole uses practical approach in teaching English.  She often participates in role-play to allow the students to visualize and experience what it is like to be in a realistic situation.  There is really no stopping this woman.


TEACHER JOY

This petite teacher is another quiet-looking individual.  Her youthful face often gives other people the impression that she is inexperienced.  Again, let me reiterate that she is just quiet.  Teacher Joy is actually a well-read individual.  Just look at those books.  It is not just for display, I promise.

Teacher Joy is in love with literature.  She often finds herself reading when she is at home.  She also writes poetry when inspired.  If you get lucky, she might read some of her materials to you.  In school, she mainly teaches and guides the students using Breakthrough books.  The book covers all English skills.  It may be tough but she patiently explains each section and checks if they are on the same page.  She is definitely built for this.

Now, let us introduce fresh, innocent looking faces.

TEACHER ELLEN

New to the team, Teacher Ellen is a rambunctious individual, who simply wants to be known as outgoing.  She can pretty much get along with anyone.  Her laughter is so infectious, that you will find yourself laughing with her for no reason at all.  Her bubbly personality has put her in the local media scene.  Yes!  She has background in acting and hosting.  If you are good at researching online, you might find some of her previous appearances.  Teacher Ellen’s personality simply shines on and off screen.  Definitely not shy, she wants to help others in discovering oneself.

Because of her sociable nature, Teacher Ellen is tasked to help individuals improve their socializing skill.  She will coach you how to convey your thoughts without hesitation.  You will be able to spend your hour with Teacher Ellen learning appropriate expressions in different situations.

She is out to prove herself to be valuable in the school.  Constantly training with the rest of the teachers, Ellen is someone to watch out for.


TEACHER DIANNE

Teacher Dianne is a new member of the nurse instructors.  She will be teaching you all nursing-related topics and join you to any role-plays that is needed to enhance your skills.  Looking at her face, one might think that she is a shy person.  Well, that is partly true.  However, give her time and she will be talking like there is no tomorrow.

Another teacher leaning towards the arts, she has proven to be very crafty.  That would be obvious once you step in her classroom.  Her crafts could be one of your conversation topics.  You can see all her DIYs plastered on one of the four walls of her room.  Not only that, she is also a skin enthusiast.  This woman has been trying to tap different things that she sets her mind to.  Now that she has joined Global Steps Academy, she would like to excel in the field by being an effective educator.  Although she has been teaching before, it would be a first to teach Japanese.  Give it a go.  You will be able to pick up many things from her.

The Teachers Behind the Academy (part 2)

TEACHER LANNAH

Do not be fooled by this petite teacher.  This light woman is heavy with knowledge.  A graduate of Accountancy, Teacher Lannah juggled bookkeeping to different companies and teaching English to foreign students.  Now, she is concentrating on the latter.

For several years, Teacher Lannah has been known for her intelligence when it comes to teaching English.  Nowadays, she is also known for a special skill that many students are raving about – writing on the whiteboard upside down.  Because she has always been on the opposite end of the table, she needed to find a way to let the student read the text she writes without shifting or moving her seat.  It is unknown when she developed this skill, but many are in awe of how fast she writes as well.  We are sure that you will find this interesting as well.

Teacher Lannah has also been tagged as the joker.  She tries to make her classes interesting by humoring the students.  Every time the students come out of her classroom, the laughter lingers until they get to the student’s lounge.  Even with her funny side, you can bet that you will get substance in her classes.  Do you want to know why?  It is because Teacher Lannah is tasked to research and develop the school’s curriculum.  She updates herself every day.  Rest assured, she definitely knows what she is teaching you.  Big task for a small person, right?  That’s Teacher Lannah for you.

TEACHER ANNIE

A person who is always mistaken to be quiet, Teacher Annie can easily carry a conversation with anyone.  She enjoys hosting get-togethers by helping out in the production of meal and simply talking to guests.  Her nurturing nature allows her to check on everybody whenever needed.  During her free time, she manages to attend dance classes with some of the teachers and interested students.  She definitely has that artistic side that she maintains to practice.

Teacher Annie graduated Broadcast Communication in one of the top universities in the Philippines.  Her broad knowledge in her studies landed her a gig in ESL teaching.  In the ESL field, she can exercise her literacy by doing many things that she knows best.  Pronunciation and public speech are some of them.

In school, Teacher Annie is designated to take care of all international English tests.  She teaches techniques on how to improve scores for TOEIC, TOEFL, and IELTS.  Teacher Annie cannot be the only person who knows how to teach these techniques.  She continuously imparts her knowledge to all the teachers in school.  Many may fear these of tests, but Teacher Annie will help you find ways to make it easier for you.  If you are struggling in improving your scores in these tests, approach Teacher Annie and she will help you.

The Teachers Behind the Academy (part 1)

Every time you look for an ESL school abroad, you ask mostly about the school’s location, curriculum, enrollment fee, study hours, accommodation, etc.  That is understandable.  Often times, it does not cross your mind to know about your instructors.  You just expect to show up in class and let the instructor coach you in improving your English skills.

I say, it would be good to get to know your instructors to help release apprehensions in learning English.  It is comforting to know that your instructor will not judge you for your mistakes but help you improve your skills.  It is good to know that you can ask questions without feeling embarrassed about asking them.  It is good to know the teachers who can supply you with sufficient information.

TEACHER BENJ

A skilled nurse with licenses under his belt, Teacher Benj always challenges himself to do better in his field.  After being in the medical environment for a while, he interestingly decided to pursue teaching.  He exposed himself into teaching general and business English.  After joining Global Steps Academy in 2015, he incorporated nursing in his teachings.

Teacher Benj is a team leader and the head instructor for medical English in the said academy.  As the head of medical English, he makes sure that the curriculum is updated in accordance to the student’s level.  Knowing how tough the job of a nurse could be, he appropriately created a program that would be fun and informative at the same time.  Together with the other nurse instructors, they convene to role-play with the students.

Walking down the halls of the academy, Teacher Benj lights up the surroundings with his vibrant personality.  He definitely enjoys putting a smile on someone’s face.  His meticulous teaching and patience for the students earned him a spot as a trainer for new ESL instructors.

For Teacher Benj, he wants to be able to teach you general and business English.  His wishes include coaching you in improving your scores in TOEFL and TOEIC.  He hopes to guide his students through by entertaining all questions related to medical English.  Basically, Teacher Benj wants to make sure that no minute in his class goes to waste.

If you feel that you can match up with his personality, do not be afraid to approach him.  He is a friendly individual.  He might even sing and dance for you.  *wink*


TEACHER MIA

Alongside Teacher Benj, Teacher Mia is another veteran.  A team leader as well, she has been tagged as a strict teacher.  Not to intimidate anybody, but she definitely expects to see results.  However, do not be frightened.  Underneath that nonchalant face is a funny teacher.  Yes.  You read it right.  Teacher Mia is funny.  She <b>means business</b> in the classroom but she sometimes mixes her lessons with humor.  How does she do that?  I guess you need to find out for yourself.

Teacher Mia is known for improving students’ sentence construction.  She will teach you different ways of expressing your thoughts.  It is in her nature.  In her college years, she studied BA Communication in the University of the Philippines Baguio.  She majored in Journalism and minored in Broadcast Communication.  Talk about dedication.  Teacher Mia definitely knows her craft.  So, if you need to improve your writing skill in any international English tests or just writing in general, I think you know who to approach.

In the academy, she takes care of all summarized evaluation.  If you want to know your standing, knock on her door and she will welcome you in her room.  Consider it your counseling time as well.  She can spare a few minutes to help you with anything related to English.

So, what exactly should you expect from this page?  Well, our goal is to deliver great things that are true to our heart.  We will let you have a sneak peak of what to look forward to when you come to Cebu, Philippines and study in our school.

Since we would like to be your source of information, the team will extend its best in giving you heads up on everything about learning English and experiencing the culture.  This page will be your guide from inquiring, enrolling, flying to Cebu, studying English, and experiencing Filipino hospitality.  Awesome, right?

It would be good to learn with someone face-to-face or online but time does not always permit you to study with an instructor.  Hence, we offer mini lessons on our page.  It would help YOU in improving reading, grammar, and vocabulary skills.  We have many activities lined up so, you had better watch out for those.  Hmm… This is getting interesting.

We aim to make English learning fun

For some, learning English just might be forced because it is needed in their job.  It does not have to be that way.  It does not have to be all about classrooms, lectures, and textbooks.  Learning English does not have to be a burden.  Besides, the reason why you are studying English is that you want to communicate.  You want to be able to convey your thoughts and voice out your feelings.  We would like to lead you to your improvement without exhaustion.
